Post-Abortive syndrome is a type of post-traumatic stress disorder frequently experienced by men who have had children aborted. Through abortion the natural grieving process is often blocked by denial, thus denying men the opportunity to grieve for the death of their child. In all loss type traumas the man must go through the grieving process before healing can be fulfilled.
Abortion not only affects the father of the baby, but the grandfather, the siblings and other relatives. A man who marries a post abortive woman can also be affected by her pain and grief, even though he was not the father of the aborted child.
How Abortion Hurts Men
Abortion takes the life of a developing baby in the mother’s womb. This ends the process of procreation between the man and the woman thereby severing their lineage.
Abortion blocks the man’s instinct to protect and provide for his family.
Abortion is a willful decision that completely alters a person’s value of life. While viewed as a solution to a “problem pregnancy,” the costs are high, with the immediate cost being the failure to procreate descendants.
Men can guilt and even fear after an abortion to the extent that they lose the ability to trust women, authority and even God.
Abortion may result in anger, anxiety and errors in judgment. This can cause failures in present and future relationships with women, children and others, and may diminish one’s capacity as a father, a husband and a man.
